Reasons for Low Energy and Feeling Tired All the Time

Do you feel tired all the time? It’s a common problem that can be caused by a number of factors. 


Whether it’s late nights, stress, a medical issue, or something more people than ever are reporting feeling exhausted constantly, and it can make it hard to live your life to the full. 


So, here are some possible causes for feeling tired all the time:

1. Too much caffeine  

If you’re a coffee-lover, it’s important to remember that caffeine can stay in your body for several hours – and it could be affecting your energy levels throughout the day. 


Drinking tea, coffee, or other high-caffeine drinks is fine in moderation. But, if you’re consuming them excessively, it might be worth cutting back to see if your energy improves. 

2. Nutritional deficiencies 

Another common reason behind tiredness is a nutritional deficiency, which is usually caused by not eating a balanced diet and missing out on important vitamins and minerals. 


Some common deficiencies are vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, and magnesium – but it could be caused by a lack of other vitamins, so make sure you’re eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean meat, dairy products, whole grains, eggs, and legumes to stay healthy. 


It’s also recommended that vegans and vegetarians take supplements in vitamin B12, iron, and vitamin D, as it can be hard to get enough of these nutrients without eating meat and dairy. 

3. Disturbed sleep 

It’s well known that not getting enough sleep can make you feel tired. But, even if you’re getting a full 8 hours, if you’re waking up a lot in the night, this could cause low energy during the day. 


A lot of the time, people wake up in the night without even knowing and it can mean losing a lot of sleep. Some ways to reduce this include being fully relaxed before going to bed, making sure the room isn’t too hot or cold, avoiding drinks before bed, and having a proper routine. 

4. Not spending time outside 

Spending too much time indoors can make you feel run down. This is a common problem, as people spend a lot of time in their homes or working indoors, so they don’t get enough fresh air.  


Getting outside can wake you up and increase your energy levels. It also means you get more vitamin D, which is good for your mental health, and it boosts your immune system. Aim to go for a walk as often as possible, especially when it’s sunny. 

5. Stress or anxiety 

Feeling stressed or anxious can be another reason for feeling exhausted. Spending a lot of time worrying about work, money, relationships, and other issues can lead to sleep problems and have other unwanted effects on our health, including tiredness. 


To deal with this, try to resolve some of the issues you’re stressed about, like being unhappy in a job. You can also try stress management techniques like mindfulness or meditation.
